Heyy DevART,
In my previous journal entry i mentioned that i would like to start using this journal as a blog. So today, as i was about to start by first entry a question popped in to my heard: If the definition of blogging is in the simplest sense reflecting on and renting about random stuff then isnt blogging the same as journal keeping (journal-ing?)? hmmmmm.
I thought about thus for a few minutes and came up with a simplified answer: Journal keeping is done on a physical paper (no not the paper on Microsoft Word)or in a book AKA a journal, while blogging is the same idea just done on a computer or other technical device such as i Pod... Phone... and so on.
In the end the two practices are indeed the same.
This resemblance got me thinking about the two overwhelming art forms that exist here on DA (in general art (as in painting/drawing) can be divided into these two categories): Traditional Art and Digital Art.
Just today I received a poll asking "What do you prefer: Traditional of Digital Art" i answered traditional, that being my main medium, and was a little surprised at the results.
An overwhelming amount of users also voted for traditional art rather than digital. The reason this shocked me perhaps has to do something about my past on DA.
You see when i fist signed up for this site i was overwhelmingly a digital artist. Photoshop was my best friend! Because of my interest in digital art i never bothered to notice all the wonderful traditional artists on this site. Almost all the people i watched were digital artists, and they were the ones i derived my inspiration from. Digital art is magnificent indeed, it takes lots of skill and patience above all. I would even argue that it takes more patience than traditional art, especially of your mouse REALLY sucks if you know what I mean. Plus those endless tutorials about using photoshop... yet i always seamed to find the most difficult ways of outlining and colouring. So many possibilities with just one program.
You may be wondering where is all that digital art i keep talking about. Well i deleted it from my gallery (about 20-30 pictures). I did it because i wanted a fresh start. It was more convenient to stay on this account considering how long it took me to gain some recognition.
In the recent years i slowly let go of digital art. Partly for the sake of my eyes and partly for the discovery (or rather rediscovery) of the world of traditional art in which i grew up in. I remembered all the fun times i had drawing on paper and having a physical form of my drawing to tape on the wall and take to school. It's these natural/human things that make traditional art so appealing to me. I like to open my drawer and list through my drawings. When things are digital we lose that connection with artwork. Out senses are minimized to sight only. Traditional work includes all the senses.
This is why so many write in journals instead of blogging. We still look for that human aspect in things. Familiarity is comfort.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this! PLEASE COMMENT!
